On Saturday 9th June, Boston party starters and masters of the slow jam, Soul Clap journey into West London for eight, epic, unadulterated hours for A Night With…

FREE SOUL CLAP MIX

As part of their extensive Efunk Album tour, which has taken them from Miami, Rome, Paris, New York and Berlin, unleashing the Soul Clap signature sound, leaving people grooving and moving together in intergalactic harmony. Efunk (Everybody´s Freaky Under Natures Kingdom) is the duo’s debut album released on Wolf+Lamb and shows them teaming up with a few close friends. Outside of the studio and back on the dance-floor the boys have a very special summer mapped out picking up the baton as new residents of Ibiza’s finest DC10.

The last couple of years have borne witness to the rise and rise of the Soul Clap phenomenon. Remix masters at work, they push out a mixture of influences that texture their original productions as well as their famous colourful edits. Influenced from the likes of Larry Levan and David Mancuso, infamous for playing outside of specific labels and genres, Soul Clap sets are something of a variety show roller-coaster, which change BPMs, genres and emotions throughout, something which is a signature from the Wolf+Lamb experience. Be prepared for ups and downs, smiles and frowns. Free your mind, and your ass will follow.

A Night With…Soul Clap will take place at the stunning Loft Studios on Scrubs Lane in West London.

From pure party lovers to industry insiders and DJs, there was a certain sense of excitement in the air for the bank holiday treat. Across one weekend a long list of house and techno talents including Visionquest, Jamie Jones, Kerri Chandler, Cassy, Matthias Tanzmann, The Martinez Brothers and many more were hitting the brummy city to party at new venue, The Arena, as well as the beloved Rainbow complex.

On April 6th the event that everyone had been talking about for weeks finally began. Circoloco is arguably one of the most illustrious parties in the world that serves daytime revelry lovers of those in the know and, of course, the most cutting edge music. The Easter celebration saw three typically off the wall events programmed in club spaces old and new across the city, with line-ups jam packed with on-point talents from across the house and techno spectrum.

A huge part of the event surrounded the launch of the brand new and impressive Arena. As well as mind melting lights and pyrotechnics, the space was decked out with heavy sound systems to ensure we could enjoy every high-hat, bass rumble and melodic pulse dished out to us. The space itself is a collection of Victorian railway arches under the over-reaching curve of The Rainbow’s embrace and somehow mimics the architecture of an ancient Coliseum. It held up to 5,000 ravers, and was no doubt one of the city’s most essential rave spaces that weekend. DJs included ‘Loco favorites Jamie Jones, Kerri Chandler, Matthias Tanzmann, Dyed Soundorom, Dan Ghenacia, Cassy, The Martinez Brothers and Below main man Adam Shelton.

Next, it was on to a warehouse at just past midnight where the sensational Hot Natured (aka Jamie Jones and Lee Foss) took us through to 7am with a back to back set. Label mates Luca C and Ali Love as well as Clockwork and Richy Ahmed also played, pouring out plenty of creamy house sounds right through the night. To finish off the Spring-time extravaganza, Below took the reins in The Courtyard, which comes complete with natural light, exposed brick work and trees for an open air day time special. This time the party ran from midday until 3am and was headlined by one of the biggest teams in the game, Visionquest (Shaun Reeves, Lee Curtiss and Ryan Crosson). Of course, local night Below also had their residents out to play and founder Adam Shelton got behind the decks, along with One Records co-chief, Subb-an.

DC10’s Circo Loco is amongst the most sought after party brands with multiple residencies around the world at the foremost temples of dance music, leading festivals and conferences on all continents. We were lucky enough to have them travel from the hedonistic island to warm us up on our rain sodden shores, for a weekend that’s surely going in the books as one of the most exciting clubbing prospects to have hit Birmingham in years. With an open air background, up for it crowd and even a sit-down all soundtracked to cutting edge underground beats, we captured the quintessential moments of this famous brands gift to UK, but before the “Big One” hits your screens, here’s a little preview of what went down…

Crosstown Rebels rise to notoriety has been something quite meteoric – and Maceo Plex has played an affirmative role in their development as a label. Last up on the bill is one of the most innovative producers to immerge from the UK in the last 5 years, Pearson Sound, formally known as Ramadanman. Quite a tasty line-up.

Both Booka Shade and Carl Craig continue to thrill audiences with their unique approaches to live electronic music. Booka Shade, having not graced UK decks for some time other than one brief appearance this year, will no doubt give fans exactly what they’re looking for. Under the many guises that Carl Craig has released as during the years, some of his most respected output has come from his 69 project. He’ll be revisiting this classic period as homage to the genius that has cemented his reputation as one of the finest purveyors of techno.

Shirazinia aka Dubfire has established himself as one of the forerunners of the scene, releasing polished techno on labels such as Desolat, Minus and Cocoon before founding his own label SCI + TEC. Completing the line-up is DJ T., whose background as a DJ, label owner, producer, club operator, publisher and journalist has put him in excellent stride for his breakthrough as an artist in his own right. He’ll be supported by the sounds of Burnski, Maxxi Sound System and a special set from Antonio Vendone B2B Adam Curtain.

A bank holiday special can’t go without an afterparty. ‘We Are Industry’ will be driving the party on through the evening at a secret location from 11pm – 6am, with the likes of Manik B2B Burnski, Huxley, WiLDKATS, Ben Pearce and Paddy Lopaski.

What is your favorite track at the moment?

‘Time’ from the Pachanga boys is one that we’ve been playing out for a little while now…great tune!

This May bank holiday the Cadenza cadre is putting Proud2 in a spin. Every detail of design and production has been tweaked and freaked to turn the Vagabundos’ imagination into reality with the futuristic sound of Cadenza, at the O2.

Since conceiving the concept, Luciano has taken his wild Vagabundos crew, their forward thinking underground sounds and all sorts of crazy extra production at the illustrious Pacha, Ibiza, to huge venues across the planet. This event will be the first time the collective will have partied together in the UK.

Having created more than a reputation for themselves over the past two seasons in Ibiza, it was only a matter of time before Luciano’s Vagabundos headed over to our cold shores. As well as the Cadenza boss himself, the likes of Reboot, Maayan Nidam & Alex Picone will all play together at a multi-room space in the capital, with a massive custom built Vagabundos stage alongside a specially designed sound system and production to match. The 4000 capacity venue is the perfect setting for two rooms of Cadenza carouse.

Nitin’s love affair with Techno & House is clearly the platform to which he belongs to be standing on. An unostentatious artist with a sophisticated sound and attitude to the world of underground music, his stance in the industry is becoming clearer and more prominent by the hour.

His career has spanned over 15 years bringing him from Coast to Coast where he has delivered beats with some of the top DJs in the world regularly sharing the decks with M.A.N.D.Y, Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones, and Audiofly. He is considered to be a key player in the recent explosion of Toronto artists on the world and one of the men who make the magic happen for Canadian imprint, No.19 Music with label partner Jonny White of Art Department. So, after a life in music and now A&R for a label that is rapidly becoming a global underground gem, it’s undeniable this man knows a thing or two about music – which tracks will he never let go of and why? Over to Nitin…

Ron Trent – Morning Factory

Prescription is definitely up there as one of my top house labels of all time. This song being my favourite. Its simple, hypnotic, druggy and in my opinion this track is perfect for most occasions, that’s why its always in the rotation. Truth be told I used to play this track from half way through as I’m more a fan of this track less the spoken word vocals in the front half of it. I’ve recently acquired the dubplate version which is a full instrumental

Kerri Chandler – Atmospheric Beats

Kerri has hands down made some of the greatest house songs of all time. This song is always a hit for me. If I’m playing this tune it means I’m having a good time. It’s uplifting yet driving, house music at its finest.

M5 Basic Channel – I love Maurizio

Basic Chanel and everything else that has spawned from them, really. This cut in particular has that distinctive sub bass that you recognise as soon as you put it on. You always hope there’s someone in the crowd who runs up and is very happy to be hearing this. That always puts a smile on my face ☺ Its also a track I like to layer things on top of like an acappella or some crazy vocal track. Its one of the best DJ tools ever.

Robert Owens – Bring down the Walls

Gotta be one of my favourite songs by the powerhouse duo of Larry Heard and Robert Owens. This song was my introduction to Robert Owens amazing vocals and Larry Heard’s production. Of course when I did first hear this I didn’t fully grasp how important these two guys are. It was something I would discover after a few years. This is house music in its rawest form in my humbled opinion. I discovered it well after it came out and always thought it would have been amazing to be clubbing when this first came out. Of course I was only 8 years old when that happened so chances were slim.

Metro Area – Muira

This track is the perfect balance of retro and future sounds. I felt nostalgic the first time I heard this record. Definitely one that stays with me at all times. Morgan Geist and Envron have always been a step ahead of the times. I’ve been a fan for quite some time. I had to buy and additional copy of this on wax as I played the shit out of the first copy.

Words: Nitin

Named Pan-Pot after a fairly mundane dial that governs the left and right axis of the stereofield, the duo themselves are quite the opposite. …

Named Pan-Pot after a fairly mundane dial that governs the left and right axis of the stereofield, the duo themselves are quite the opposite. Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix are two techno tyrants, who’s unorthodox sound reinvigorates dancefloors with its throbbing bass-lines and murky melodies. Alongside writing their own material, Pan-Pot are known for some truly inventive remixes for artists such as, Booka Shade. In the midst of a tour for their recent release, ‘mobilee back to back vol.6’, they’ve shown UGroove some love and taken time to answer a few of our questions.

The big news at the moment for Pan-Pot is your new release ‘Mobilee Back to Back Vol. 6’. How long has this been in the making? How did you go about deciding which tracks made the cut for you to include in the mix?

Tassilo: To mix the first part was quite easy as we just chose our favorite mobilee tracks of the past year and mixed them. Mobilee doesn’t release that much (more quality than quantity) so this made it easy for us to choose. The second CD took much longer as we arranged most of our tracks in a new way and we combined older with newer tracks of ours to make it a nice journey through our sound.

Thomas: …and working on the DVD was a lot of work.

The CD comes with a feature length documentary, in which you are followed on tour. When did the idea for this come about and what made you decide to do it?

Thomas: Actually that was Anja Schneider’s idea. Every artist makes something special for the back to back compilation and as we always make those short tour diary videos the idea came up that we should make this a bit bigger.

What was it like having someone follow you tour, did it take getting used to?

Thomas: We got used to it very quickly because it was Sebastian, the director of the movie, who also filmed us and who we know very well for a long time. He is also a friend of ours and part of mobilee so we always felt very comfortable.

Is touring important to you at DJs? What aspects of it do you really enjoy?

Tassilo: Yes besides making music touring is the most important thing. It’s good to be out there, get in touch with people who enjoy the same music and party with them. And its exciting seeing new cities and places and meeting new people.

Thomas:…and some of the promoters we consider our friends and its always big fun seeing them.

You also released ‘Gravity’ earlier this year, are you happy with any initial success in the digital charts?

Tassilo: Yes it did really well, #3 in the Beatport Techno charts I believe so we were really happy with the result charts-wise.

Thomas: Sometimes you can’t really only measure the success of a track within the charts. For example it does also really well on youtube and soundcloud and those direct feedbacks are also very important to us.

You are consistent purveyors of techno and tech house. What are your thoughts on the new wave of nu-disco and funk inspired house in comparison to the darker techno sound?

Thomas: Well we like the darker sound, this is what we like to play in our sets to create a specific atmosphere. Nu-disco and funk is also very popular in Berlin right now but this is not us.

Do you think techno will see any developments and new influences in 2012?

Tassilo: I hope it will. It is always exciting to see new things coming up and usually there are many of great artists out there, who don’t want to stick to the exciting sounds. We also always try to develop and experiment with new sounds.

Tell us all about the fateful night you met Anja Schneider…what was it about this meeting that forged a friendship that had you releasing on her label (mobilee) within weeks?

Thomas: We booked Anja and invited her and Ralf from mobilee to an event, which we organized ourselves right in the beginning of our career. The party was lame though with about 10 people attending so we had enough time to talk to both of them. At the end they did like the tracks we showed them little later and released the Popy & Caste EP, the second release on mobilee.

Remixing for the likes of Booka Shade can also be added to your repertoire. Which tracks/ people have you been most excited to remix for and been most pleased with?

Thomas: Lifetimes of Slam was a highlight for sure. I am a big fan of them and this track is one of my all time favorites. It was a huge honor to be able to mix it.

After a busy start to the year, what else have you got planned moving forward in 2012?

Tassilo: Oh it stays busy. Right now we are touring with “back to back” till end of May and we already started to work on our album to spend many hours in the studio already.

Thomas: Yeah the only thing that holds us off making music is the Playstation, which is also in the studio.

Quick-fire round

Where does the name Pan-Pot come from?

Tassilo: an electronic studio device called Panorama Potentiometer

Favourite club to play in?

Tassilo: Watergate Berlin

Thomas: Studio 80, Amsterdam and with Krankbrothers in London

Favourite club to visit?

Tassilo: Watergate

Thomas:…and Kater Holzig in Berlin when it gets little longer.

All-time fave track?

Tassilo: Schatrax – Mispent Years

Thomas: DJ Hyperactive – Wide Open

What else do you like to listen to other than dance music?

Tassilo: I listen to a lot of Classic Music lately as it really calms me down during these stressful days.

Thomas: all kinds, also ambient and drum & bass for me.

Who’s really doing it for you this year, production wise?

Tassilo: Maetrik

PAN POT ON FACEBOOK

We are….is a feature brand new to UGroove TV created to give a moment to the labels we find and love, for those who’s music we enjoy and to those we feel deserve to be looked at in a little more detail. It’s always about the releases, the artists and rarely about the label itself or their trusty A&R’s stroke label managers, who let’s face it, make the labels exactly what they are so we thought we should show them a little love, put them in the spotlight and give them a moment to tell us what they are all about. This week UK label, Hypercolour, Let It Go and spill the label beans…

Hello, we are Hypercolour

The label is run and owned by Jamie Russell, Alex Jones & Ste Roberts

Our sound is different to the rest…off kilter, left-of-centre dance music that draws inspiration from generations of electronic music.

It all began when Hypercolour started back in 2006. Alex was DJing at my parties in London at the time, he was making music (looking back it was nothing special! and how far that boy has now come!), luckily Alex had a mate (Glimpse) who was a dab hand in the studio, we basically decided that we could do as good a job (if not better!) as our peers, at the time!

The name of the label comes from those silly heat sensitive tshirts!

Artists who have released on the label include Maya Jane Coles, Mosca, Axel Boman, Huxley, Groove Armada, Eats Everything, Kris Wadsworth, Mark Henning, Alex Jones, Tom Demac, Shenoda, Kevin McPhee, Jimmy Edgar, 214/ J.Alvarez + many more

Artists who have to remixed for us include Sven Weisemann, Larry Heard, Lee Jones, Dave Aju, Youandewan, Dan Berkson, T.Williams, Minilogue, Holger Zilske, Mr G, Oliver Who Factory, Chris Simmonds, Damian Schwartz, Bearweasel, Losoul, Matt Star etc

The first track we released on the label was Glimpse ‘Talking To Girls’ EP – obviously a subject that Chris was very confident in back then!

This track is called Julia, she has sex for fun by the way!

A successful and favourite remixed track was Kris Wadsworth’s ‘Mainline’ (Jimmy Edgar remix)

next level cosmic shit, blows all the generic deep house shite out the water..we salute you Jimmy!

A favourite original track on the label is the new Huxley track is probably the track, i’ve played most, and it goes off every time, so yeah it holds a special place in my heart now. I played it last summer to about 2000 people at Secret Garden party, and knew then it was a monster!

A track that showcases the labels sound perfectly Shenoda ‘Shots’

this was rinsed at DC10 by the residents last summer, and it’s a coming of age for Laurie, he’s really going to be someone to keep an eye on this year, his forthcoming EP on Hypercolour is HUGE!

Another label we appreciate is Pampa, not a difficult one that! we don’t shy away from the fact that DJ Koze is a huge inspiration to us, and our output…he is responsible for Glass Table to be fair. That’s our picture disc sub labels if you’re not familiar?

http://glasstablemusic.tumblr.com/

Something you probably don’t know about us is Alex Jones is a stand up comedian on the 4th friday of every month, at the local Jongleurs in Amersham : )

The artwork that comes with our releases is special because Alex Jones designs all of it, so that means we don’t have to pay for it! haha

The ethos behind the label is to be different, and to challenge, but to also be relevant..

In the future: Still releasing quality underground dance music, and to see our breadth of artists recognised for the huge talents that they are. Too many DJs who trot the globe, and can’t even write their own music, I look at our stable and see extremely talented artists who make their own music, struggling to get recognised. Makes no sense to me..there time will come i’m sure.

We like a party: Forthcoming we have Hypercolour warehouser parties, where you’ll see the likes of Groove Armada, Maya Jane Coles, Mosca etc. Hypercolour is hosting the saturday at Glade with Eats Everything, we’re also in Miami for the first time! we have Maya Jane Coles, Groove Armada and Alex Jones (we hear the Delano is Madonna’s hotel!?), oh and our London home fabric on 29th July.

Our greatest achievement is still standing, and still putting out wax across 6 labels!

Top three people we would want to release music from on the label are DJ Koze, Horror Inc/ Akufen & Konrad Black

Our next track coming up is Groove Armada – No Knock EP followed by the new Mosca!!!

You can find us on www.hypercolour.co.uk

TWITTER

We would also just like to say keep your eyes and ears peeled for forthcoming music from the likes of Mosca, Eats Everything, Maya Jane Coles, George Fitzgerald, T.Williams, Tom Demac, Larry Heard, Cosmin, TRG + many many more

We Are here for a good while yet

‘Don’t Think’ About Missing The Chemical Brothers

The Chemical Brothers, for nearly 20 years have been fantastic on record. Most recently they achieved critical acclaim for their documentary ‘Don’t Think’ which received a nationwide cinema release. A fine standalone live album too, with all our favourite Chemical Brothers tunes including, ‘Do It Again’, ‘Leave Home’ and ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’, are poured in, sitting nicely alongside the more recent monsters such as Horse Power and the tremendous Swoon. It may however, leave you in desperate need to see them live.

Do not fear UGroovers, The Chemical Brothers have announced they will be joining the Creamfields line-up for another year running. After an outstanding performance last year, the duo return to headline the Annie Mac Presents Arena on Saturday 25th August alongside Annie Mac, Major Lazer, Erol Alkan, Crookers, Madeon and many more. As one of the world’s biggest electronic acts, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have achieved colossal success as The Chemical Brothers with their legendary performances, captivating crowds with their anthems including ‘Block Rockin’ Beats’, ‘Hey Boy, Hey Girl’ ‘Believe’ and ‘Star Guitar’.

The niche festival Farr, returns on the 27th-28th July for its second year in the deserted wood of Newnham, Hertfordshire. After the huge success of last summers forest rave, Farr ensures to wet your whistle, whether your into drum & bass, dub, disco, house or beyond. From a pretty impressive 2011 lineup with names such as Lee Foss, Julio Bashmore and Ewan Pearson, Farr has stepped the game up in all areas of its 2012 event.

Now taking place over 2 nights instead of 1, Farr promises a bigger and better experience for its festival go-ers. On board to help run the show, Clubs brands Ransom Note vs Society, Just Jack, Flux and Sancho Panza ensure to give you that boutique experience Farr stands for.

Known for its exclusivity with a forbidden forest location and intimate gathering, Farr continues to keep it unknown to the mainstream masses. Farr aims to leave you lost in music, experiencing the wilderness like never before, with headliners including, Miguel Campbell, George Fitzgerald, Eats Everything, Jozif, Huxley, Waifs & Strays and Alix Perez, plus a ton of local DJs.

Andy Ash grew up collecting records and DJing since the age of fifteen and cut his teeth warming up playing deep house music around …

Andy Ash grew up collecting records and DJing since the age of fifteen and cut his teeth warming up playing deep house music around the clubs of Cambridge. Since then Andy has moved to Liverpool and widened his DJ spectrum, he now regularly drops vinyl bombs spanning from afro-beat through to deep house in his DJ sets. Andy Ash has steadily been bulding his sound over the past few years taking in influences ranging from jazz through to techno. He started off with a small digital release on Five20East (The Revenge’s original label) and has gone on to release multiple orginal productions, edits and remixes on labels such as On The Prowl, Boogie Originals, FOTO, Use of Weapons, Black Key Records, Fly by Night Music and Kolour Recordings to name a few. Having recently taken on the role of co-runner for Boogie Originals Records expect much more from Andy in the future.

Underground Resistance – Jupiter Jazz

Since buying this I can’t think of a time when it hasn’t been at the back of my record box. I bought it blind in a record store; I had no idea what it sounded like but was just going off the UR name. I obviously knew of UR but had never heard of this particular record before. However I am MASSIVELY glad I bought it; every track on it is ace and personally I think it is one of their best. It works every time and is a pleasure to play. If you don’t own it go and buy it…

Loleatta Holloway – Love Sensation

Yeah so it was seriously difficult to find a decent youtube video of this one. There are so many terrible versions! Anyway despite that, this is also one of those records that doesn’t leave my box and has also got me out of many sticky situations… I actually normally play a slightly different version to this one (Shep Pettibone Extended mix I think). The great thing about this track is that it appeals to anyone and everyone; if you’re playing to a slightly more commercial crowd it works; if you’re playing at an underground spot it still smashes it. Absolute classic.

Ten City – Devotion

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to this but WOW what a great track!Byron Stingly is an exceptional house vocalist. I used to listen to this track over and over again when I was about 14/15 on an old Ministry of Sound tape I think. When I finally managed to get my hands on the vinyl I was so pleased. I have only managed to play it out once or twice actually but listening back to it now makes me want to play it more. It’s got that perfect balance between disco and house for me.

Osborne – Ruling

Time for something a bit more recent! It was hard to pick a track of this EP, so this is here to represent all of them really. It’s such a great record and I regularly play other tracks such as ‘Downtown’ as well. I really like Osborne’s style of production; he manages to have this really authentic sound whilst still sounding new and fresh. I was pretty late onto him as a producer and it was a friend of mine who put me on his stuff… This is another record I always have with but don’t seem to get to play enough of!

Norma Jean Bell – I’m the Baddest Bitch

It’s the Moodyman remix of this that I usually play… This is the perfect dancefloor track, it’s just got such a good groove and when that bass-line kicks in it can tear the roof off when played at the right time. It’s difficult to say much more about this track. Just listen to it and I defy anyone not to like it!
